Communications are another factor to consider before deciding to buy property in Turkey. Turk Telecom provides the Turkish telephone network and once again getting connected is pretty straightforward with several plans available depending upon the volume of calls. International calls can tend to be on the expensive side.

There are many mobile phone operators available in Turkey, however Turkcell tend to provide better coverage than most. Pay as you go and accounts are freely available with variable payment plans. You can use your UK phone with a Turkish SIM card as long as you register it with Turk Telecom. You will also need your passport, serial number and proof of purchase.

Internet access is widely available and there are wireless hotspots freely available in many public places and hotels. There is dial up access and broadband available in nearly all major areas. However, broadband is expensive compared to the UK.
